What does a law enforcement chaplain do?

A law enforcement chaplain is a specialized ministry serving in an institutional setting and not in a church.  Chaplains minister to both certified and non-certified law enforcement personnel regardless of rank or position, to inmates within local correctional facilities and to the public at-large.

Those who serve in this ministry may wear law enforcement uniforms or civilian clothes. Some are retired police officers while others have civilian jobs in addition to their ministries. Some chaplains serve in full or part-time paid positions, while others are volunteers within the agency they serve. Most chaplains cheerfully serve under any of these conditions as their ministry puts them in a position to talk and interact with people in need who ordinarily would never talk to a minister.

Chaplains are there to listen, care, and respond appropriately to the agenda of their client.  Chaplains are comforters, pastors, teachers, and counselors. They are typically very creative and understanding as they demonstrate God’s grace and love in ministering to people.

Peacekeepers NW haplains will help people discover spiritual resources and faith by providing pastoral care, and counseling. Such is the ministry of a Peacekeepers NW Chaplain.
