Specific Duties, Responsibilities and Requirements of NWSCA Chaplains

Manage and implement support processes essential to carrying out the duties of a Law Enforcement Chaplaincy, which may include any of the following:

  • Ensure the free exercise of religion within the Office they serve
  • Perform religious observances
  • Provide Pastoral care
  • Give advice to Sheriff's Office leadership regarding spiritual, religious, ethical and moral concerns
  • Apply religious sensitivities to support the distinctive spiritual needs of a pluralistic Law Enforcement community
  • Manage and implement support of religious observances at ceremonies and functions
  • Coordinate religious observance requirements, assesses support needs, formulates plans, and prioritize the use of available resources to support the Chaplain's professional ministry including:
    • Worship services
    • Liturgies
    • Rites
    • Ceremonies
  • Prepare and maintain religious accouterments, facilities, and equipment
  • Organize, train, supervise, and coordinate with local churches to support Law Enforcememt Chaplaincy
  • Prepare and maintain public relations materials and professional information resources concerning the Chaplaincy program
  • Obtain, operate, and maintain multimedia systems
  • Identify and coordinate requirements for religious observances with medical and mortuary affairs personnel
  • Safeguard religious offerings
  • Manage and implement support of pastoral care
  • Coordinate pastoral care requirements and assess support needs
  • Formulate plans and prioritize the use of all available resources
  • Provide:
    • Religious instruction
    • Spiritual renewal
    • Volunteer training
    • Involvement and recognition
    • Pastoral counseling
    • Crisis and suicide intervention and critical incident stress management
    • Spiritual nurturing
    • Pastoral visitation
    • Ecclesiastical relations
  • Apply knowledge of religious cultures, suicide and crisis intervention, and critical incident stress management to support chaplain emergency ministrations
  • Respond to crash sites, hostage situations, casualty collection points, evacuation and deployment centers, and areas of need to support law enforcement responders
  • Protect privileged communication and confidentiality
  • Coordinate support requirements for chaplain counseling with medical and mortuary affairs personnel
  • Coordinate, prepare, and present religious customs and culture briefings
  • Publicize availability of chaplain professional services to Sheriff's Office personnel
  • Coordinate and develop stewardship and social out reach activities appropriate to host communities
  • Coordinate Chaplain Service activities with other law enforcement and military organizations
  • Manage and implement processes which assist other chaplains in giving advice to their Law Enforcement leadership
  • Provide professional advice to Law Enforcement personnel regarding spiritual, religious, ethical and moral issues
  • Interpret and implement Chaplain Service policies, responsibilities and procedures inherent to the free exercise of religion
  • Assist in resolving accommodation of religious practice issues in the local correctional facility(ies)
  • Manage the Chaplain service budget, resources and support systems

 

Serving All Law Enforcement Chaplains Through Dynamic Education And Support
